Director of coaching David Young refused to be downhearted after Cardiff Blues' second pre-season defeat on the road.
The Blues went down 13-31 to Leicester Tigers in their impressive modern headquarters at Welford Road.
Young said, "Obviously it is disappointing that the squad's hard work in recent weeks has not been rewarded with a win but there are pluses to take out of this performance. Two of our newcomers, Robert Sidoli and Gethin Jenkins, have had some valuable game-time and they are going to be a huge asset in the months ahead. Sid is a great organiser in the pack and did well before he tired in the second half. He will soon be 100 per cent match fit. The same applies to Gethin and he will make a big difference to our scrum and our ball-carrying."
Young also pointed out that with half-a-dozen players still to return from injury, pre-season conditioning or suspension the side can only get stronger.
"We should keep this result in context," he added. "Not many sides are going to come to Leicester and win. They are still among the top sides in Europe."
Young revealed that at the moment the intention is to play the likes of Tom Shanklin and Rhys Williams in next weekend's Celtic League opener against Leinster Lions "unless agreement is reached over international player availability between the WRU and all four regions."
The Blues' only casualty against the Tigers was hooker Andrew Lewis who received a jaw injury from a stray elbow in the first minute. He was in pain after the game and will receive an x-ray on Sunday morning.
