Blues North under 16s closed the gap on the Ospreys at the top of the WRU Age Grade Championship courtesy of a 12-6 victory over the Dragons at Pandy Park.

Six points behind the leaders, going into the game, the visitors moved to within two thanks to tries from Sean Clark and Leon Crump and a Sam Withers conversion. Lloyd Rogers handed the Dragons a six-point cushion at the interval, courtesy of two penalties, but the second half belonged to the North.

The Scarlets remain in fourth despite beating Blues South 18-6 at Parc y Scarlets. A try from Craig Woodhall and a Jack Maynard penalty edged the Scarlets in front at half time with Rhys Griffin kicking a 21st minute penalty for the South. In the second half, Maynard and Griffin swapped penalties before a 55th minute try from captain Will Boyd settled the issue. Woodhall added the conversion for good measure.

In the under 18 Championship, the Blues regained top spot – three points clear of the Ospreys – after beating the Dragons 36-17 at Merthyr.

Harry Robinson, Rhys Patchell and Ryan Evans helped themselves to two tries each with outside half Patchell adding three conversions. The Dragons were in the contest until half time, but after the interval, the Blues pulled away to secure their bonus point win.

Ieuan Jones and Scott Matthews scored tries for the visitors with outside half Niall Martin converting both and adding a penalty.
