Under 13's District Result - Gwent 0 Cardiff & Vale 26

16th December 2008

Gwent District v Cardiff and Vale District under 13's. Caldicot RFC, Sunday 30th November 2008.

On a cold and windy Sunday afternoon at Caldicot RFC, straight from the kick off, Cardiff were put under pressure but held out the Gwent forwards  with some gritty tackling in defence.

The first try was scored by centre Matthew Edwards (Llanishen) .  After some superb passing and rucking from the forwards to the backs, Matthew split the Gwent defence in two, Tyler Williams (St Albans) converted .

Just before half time the captain Shane Young (Rumney) went on one of his blistering pacey 30 metre runs to score in the corner.

Pressure from Gwent in the first five minutes of the second half was relentless , but they could not cross the whitewash due to the strong tackling from the Cardiff defence.

The next score was from winger Ben Coomber (Glamorgan Wanderers), which was set up by a great break in midfield by scrum half Michael Hale (St Albans), which went quickly through the hands to bring the score to 0-17.

Once again our confident No 10 Tyler Williams (St Albans) converted, taking the score to 0-19.

Following yet another  run by the prop Kieron Trotman (Pentyrch), who was handing players off left and right, he gave the ball to Lewis Kirk (St Albans) who sidestepped twice and passed to the waiting No 10 Tyler Williams who unselfishly passed to winger Lewis Allen (Glamorgan Wanderers) to secure the final try.

Tyler Williams stepped up and stroked the last conversion of the game through the posts.

The game brought out the best in both backs and forwards. The tackling was excellent and ball handling skills were second to none.

We would like to thank Caldicot RFC for their hospitality.
