Both A and B teams were in action for Cardiff and Pontypridd Under 11s last weekend as the DC Thomas Cup drew the two sides together.

The B sides kicked off under the floodlights of Pentyrch RFC in this evening match in front of over 200 supporters. Cardiff took the early initiative through forward dominance with excellent quick ruck ball. The backs however failed to capitalise and only sterling Pontypridd defence held stemmed the Cardiff attack.
On the stroke of half time, Cardiff broke through the defence after storming runs by Dylan Atkins (Gwaelod Y Garth) and Shane Williams (Willowbrook), resulting with well earned try from man of the match, Adam Champ (Rhiwbina). This was converted by the cool headed Andrew Corfield (Llandaff CW) to give Cardiff a 7 - 0 lead. The second half was a far more even affair with both sides settling into a flowing style of open rugby. Pontypridd managed to score a try in the final minutes to see the score line finish at 7 - 5.

A comprehensive display by a well drilled and well disciplined Cardiff side saw an end to Pontypridd A sides 6 match unbeaten record. Cardiff were put under immediate pressure by the Pontypridd pack who dominated the first 15 minutes.
Although on the back foot, a quick penalty tap by William Hayward (Pentyrch) saw Bradley Mais (Pentrebane) take the ball to the Pontypridd pack. The ball was recycled quickly and offloaded to Callum Sheedy (St. Albans) who caught the defence napping. A decisive run and a floated pass to allowed winger Joseph 'Speedy' Williams (Lisvane), to run a full 50 yards for the first of the Cardiff tries.
From then onwards the Cardiff pack dominated allowing Joseph Williams in for a brace. Mathew Marley (Creigiau) led by example in every department and it was his direct angles of running that set up the final try for Tyler Mahony (St. Cadocs) to beat four of his opposition and squeeze in at the corner. Lewis Pearce (Oakfield) slotted over the conversion.
