In a recent interview with Rugby World, Duane speaks about the start of his Blues career.
Being a professional rugby player would take up enough time for most people. Duane Goodfield is not one of them.
The Cardiff Blues hooker fills the time between training and playing, not to mention the gruelling hours spent in the gym, with his role as a rugby development officer in the Cynon Valley.
As part of a scheme set up by the Blues and sponsors Crownford, he conducts coaching sessions at primary schools in the area.
"It keeps me occupied," says the 21-year-old.
When he's not busy finding future Wales players, Beddau product Goodfield has been impressing on the pitch himself.
He made his senior debut in the 37-20 win over Saracens in the Powergen Cup last October and has also featured in the Heineken Cup and Celtic League.
"It's been a huge step up but is something I've really enjoyed," he says. "I take it game by game and day by day. If you look after the day by day, the weeks and months look after themselves."
Goodfield faces a big challenge to oust Wales No 2 Rhys Thomas at the Blues, but he thinks this will help his game.
"Good competition is vital if we're to become better players; without it you have nothing to push you forward."
One of his key strengths is his throwing, but it's his leadership which will be put to the test in France this month when he captains Wales Under-21s at the World Cup.
"Duane's well respected by the rest of the guys, which is important in terms of the captaincy," says U21s coach Chris Davey.
"He has a very good, professional approach to the game, and is technically very good as a hooker."
